Different Kinds of Rape
Stranger Rape: A person who the victim does not know rapes her. Example: Elizabeth, 39, was out for a walk in the park, she was abducted and raped at knife point by a complete stranger.
Acquaintance Rape†: The victim knows her attacker, although he is not a close friend or family member. Example: Jane, 26, is at a wedding function, she meets a man, who offers her a lift home, later, this man enters her home and rapes her.
Date Rape†: The victim is dating the person who rapes her. Example: Linda, 46, was on holiday in Greece, during this time she met a man and spent time together during the holiday, one evening after a night of dancing, he asked her to go for a walk on the beach, where he then rapes her.
Drug Rape†: The victim is raped by an acquaintance or unknown attacker. Example: Stephen,24, is socialising with colleagues after work, a friend of one of the colleagues offers to buy drinks, Stephen’s drink is spiked, he becomes disorientated, is driven home and is raped in his home. He did not know who his attacker was.
Multiple Rape (gang rape): The victim is raped by more than one man. Example: Angela, 21, was at a party at a friend's home with a group of her friends. After a while there were three men, one other woman, and herself present. When the other woman left, the three men raped her.
Marital Rape: The victim is raped by her husband. Example: Kelly, 28, refuses her husband sex, because he is drunk, the husband uses force and rapes her.
†Acquaintance Rape, Date Rape or Drug Rape can often be used in the same context, within different organisations & some police authorities.
